A Cilantros' review

Wind Farms Vs. Appalachian People

These is an interesting post over at the Appalachian Greens bog called Wind Farms Vs. Appalachian People? I grew up near this proposed wind farm, and I have to say I have mix feelings.

It's hard not to support wind energy as an alternative to oil and coal, but it's hard to thing of the mark a wind farm puts on the landscape.

Dave Peyton's column today about Sam's Club selling private showings of We Are Marshall before it is released is the oddest story I have ever read.

I don't know why it took so long, but the AP just ran the story on Stacey Abshire on the wire. You have to love AP broadcast style: " To see Abshire's games, visit w-w-w.4-h-a-k-s.net-forward-slash4-h-a-k-s-forward-slash-hom e.h- t-m-l."

I'm going to copy and past the story because the link will rot.

W.Va. man creates popular online Sudoku puzzles
October 21, 2006 5:06 PM

NITRO, W.Va.
For Nitro resident Stacey Abshire, life is at least partly about fun and games.

By day, Abshire works as a Web designer for BrickStreet Insurance in Charleston. But at night, the 32-year-old develops online computer games available to millions of surfers across the Internet.

On his Web site, Abshire offers classic arcade games with a 21st Century twist.

He has a game called Badonkoid that is similar to the Atari game Breakout. He also has his own version of Sudoku, a popular numbers game.

Abshire's love for computers began when he was 9 years old. He began to study the languages used by programmers to create computer applications. He became fascinated with programming and carried computer magazines with him wherever he went.

After high school, Abshire studied programming at Pikeville College in Kentucky.

Abshire says it usually takes him more than a month to complete a single game.

Other games offered on his Web site include take-offs on Tetris, Kaboom and original puzzle games.

To see Abshire's games, visit w-w-w.4-h-a-k-s.net-forward-slash4-h-a-k-s-forward-slash-hom e.h- t-m-l.

Don Surber got a link from the Drudge Report, but the Daily Mail servers couldn't handle the 400 hits per minute, and they delinked it.

We have been between apartments and without cable TV for the past week. (The cable was moved last week, but we aren't going to get to move until this week.) Thank goodness for DVDs and TV shows on iTunes. Last night we watched The State - The State, Season 1 and the first three episodes of Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip - Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, Season 1. I was a little disappointed with Studio 60. Maybe it's one of those shows that grow on you. All I know is that it is no West Wing.

Yesterday I made my first visit to the Blenko Visitors Center. We visited Fenton in Williamstown last weekend. Having lived a large part of my adult life in Huntington, I'm not sure why it took me so long. (I have yet to make it to Camden Park.) I can't explain why, but I've always liked Blenko better than Fenton. Maybe it's that Fenton sells their stuff mainly via QVC these days, or it could be my regional pride. You can find some really good deals at Blenko. Everything at Fenton was rather pricy.

A new Herald-Dispatch blog, Heart of Glass, is about Blenko Glass.

I'm without cable, so I've been reduced to following the game against CFU via live blogging from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch.

The also live blogged the appearance of McG and McConaughey at the game. There is also video on the front page.

Today's Herald Dispatch reports Wednesday night's game between the Thundering Herd and the University of Central Flordia is drawing national attention. "We Are Marshall" star Matthew McConaughey and director McG plan to attend.

I didn't know YouTube and iTunes were national media outlets or that they did any orginal reporting.
