Are you a blogger if you read blogs?

More and more I hear people refer to people who read blogs as bloggers. Here's an example from WSAZ-TV.

oh puh-lease. someone who writes a blog is a blogger. Someone who READS a blog is simply a READER. You'd think that "journalists" would have a better grasp on the English language. If they were unsure, they should have looked up "blogger" on Urban Dictionary.

Susan,

I agree. It's like saying a man who reads the newspaper is a newspaper man. It completely out of context.

Is someone who has a livejournal a live journalist? ;)

Seriously, though, i think the main-stream media is as clueless to the mysterious interwebs as John "i hate bloggers" McCain. They consider participants in the "culture", even readers, as bloggers because they contribute to the process by being an audience.

you're right, it's bullocks.

That is just half-assed mistake from someone who just finished up a BS in Dumbing Down Events for Mass Consumption. It is kinda sad watching the once-great WSAZ tumble down into the WOWK-Herald Dispatch range of pandering and self-promotion.

As for MSMers being "bloggers," though, unless your name is "Bill Lynch" or "Lawrence Messina," I scoff at the notion.
